NJC Pay Award 2021-22

The joint UNISON /UNITE/ GMB claim is based on the contention  that local government workers have delivered efficiency savings year-on-year against huge pressure and that the claim must not be funded by cutting conditions. They say paying local government staff properly is an investment in local services and the economy.

Main points

The Employer has now 'raised' their offer to 1.75% . The branch considers this a derisory offer which is over 50 % less than expected inflation .

UNISON will be conducting a consultation ballot with a recommendation to reject with a probable call for industrial action

Following the discussion at the recent NJC Committee meeting about bringing forward the consultation timeline, we have revisited the timetable. After discussing potential dates with the other unions and regional leads, the NJC Exec have agreed the following timetable:

Consultation circular published: Tues 24 Aug

Deadline for branches to report their votes to regions: 5pm on Fri 24 Sept

Deadline for regions to report their votes to the Local Government team at UC: 12 noon on Wed 29 Sept

This should allow us to convene an NJC Committee meeting at the very beginning of October to discuss the outcome, whilst still taking into account the Committee’s concerns about giving schools members sufficient time to receive information and vote.

We’re in the process of finalising the consultation circular and we’re working with Comms to create new publicity materials to promote and explain both the consultation and the committee’s recommendation. We’re also planning a webinar for early September. Info on all new materials and joining info for the webinar will be included in the consultation circular.
